For the quality of the leaves and the infusion of Assam and Darjeeling teas, an international classification system has been established using the following initials: S, F, T, G, F, O, P, which stand for:
- S – Supreme (exceptional), indicating the color and infusion quality.
- F, T, G – Fancy (very fine, fantastic), Tippy (from the tips), Golden (golden-colored), referring to the quality of the picked leaves, particularly the unopened buds covered with golden or silver fuzz.
- F – Flowery (aromatic), describing the distinct strong aroma.
- O, P – Orange (amber-colored) and Pekoe (leaf), referring to the second and third leaves, which are also very tender and have a bright amber hue.
