"Asom" means peerless and for many this is the description of Assam tea. The ancient name of Assam was Pragjyotispura, meaning the city of eastern light. It is characterized by heavy rainfall between March and September with very high levels of humidity in the summer months. Ideal combination for tea cultivation. Belonging to the category of T.G.F.O.P., it is an authentic Assam and has the typical characteristics of the teas of the region.
For the quality of the leaves and extract of Assam and Darjeeling teas, an international nomenclature has been established with the following initials: S, F, T, G, F, O, P, which mean:
The S, initial of the word supreme (excellent) identifies the color and the extract.
The initials F, T, G, stand for F, fancy (very nice, fantastic) T, tippy (from tops) G, golden and identify the quality of the leaves collected. That is, the top, the leaf that has not yet opened is covered with a golden or silver fluff.
F, flowery (fragrant) identifies the characteristically strong aroma it has.
The initials O, orange (orange) and P, pekoe (leaf) identify the second and third leaves which are also very tender and have an amber color.
