The folded leaves are unrolled in the water in irregular shapes creating a golden and shiny extract. It has a pleasant smell - to some it reminds of boiled chestnut - and a rich taste even when extracted several times. It helps digestion and has the fat-dissolving properties that all oolongs have. It is said that a Buddhist cultivator used to leave a cup of tea on the iron Buddha statue. One day he went up into the surrounding hills to cut wood for a fire and suddenly felt a flash blinding him
In the cleft of a rock he saw a small tree shimmering under the sun. After the first surprise he took it out and took it home. He planted it, took care of it with special care and when the harvest season came, he made tea with its leaves in a covered mug. An unusually exquisite aroma filled the room and its taste remained clear and strong after several extracts. The cultivator thought the sapling was a gift from the Buddha and therefore named it Iron Buddha.
