Yerba Mate: The Natural Drink with Lasting Energy

Yerba Mate, also known simply as mate, is a traditional drink from Latin America, with roots in Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay, and Brazil. It is made from the dried leaves of the Ilex paraguariensis plant and offers natural energy with a mild stimulation that lasts longer than coffee.

Benefits of Yerba Mate

Yerba Mate contains caffeine, theobromine, and theophylline—a combination that provides focused energy without the “jitters” of coffee. At the same time, it includes:

  • Vitamins A, B, and C
  • Minerals like magnesium and potassium
  • Polyphenols, powerful antioxidants

These contribute to a healthy lifestyle, boost metabolism, and help control appetite.

    How to Prepare It Traditionally

  • Fill a traditional “gourd” or a large mug halfway with yerba mate leaves
  • Add warm (not boiling) water, 70–80°C
  • Stir with the bombilla and enjoy
  • You can refill the same leaves with water up to 10 times

Tip: In Europe, many enjoy it like tea – 5g steeped for 3–5 minutes in 70–80°C water.
