It is a light tea with slightly smoky notes in the aroma and a smooth, not astringent taste that reminds unsweetened cocoa.
The name Keemun comes from the Qimen region in the northern province of Anhui, where almost all the mountains are covered with tea bushes. Until 1880 the Qimen region produced only green tea. He owes the change of production to black tea to a young civil servant who lost his position when his superior fell out of favor. Then the young man remembered his father's advice, which he had ignored when he passed the exam to become a clerk. The advice said that the best guarantor of a good life is not an uncertain office position, but the skill one can possess. The young man went to the Fujian region and learned the black tea processing method. Once he returned, he used the new technique on the same leaves his neighbors used to make green tea. The method was perfectly suited to the leaves that had grown in the region's light soil and hot and humid climate.
